Description

Birds of Britain the Robin

This Robin kit is inspired from the piece I created for the Channel 4 TV series – Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas aired on the 19 December 2018.

This is the piece that was done during the show. It is a smaller version of my other robin kit.

The kit contains everything you need to create this stumpwork and silk shading Robin. It uses the more unusual Lana threads rather than the silk or cotton stranded threads traditionally used in silk shading. The Lana threads are a mix of wool and acrylic. I have used 2 different brands – Madeira and Aurifil in order to obtain the right blend of colours.

Content of the kit:

Threads:

– 3 DMC stranded cotton half skeins,

– 5 meters each of 8 different colour of Lana threads,

– 10 meters of green silk thread (twisted 2 –ply)

– Guterman sew all red and cream

Fabrics:

– Large piece of calico

– Large piece of cotton tight weave fabric and 2 additional smaller pieces

– 1 pieces of green faux suede

– Felt: red, brown, green

Other:

– White and green paper covered wires

– Red seed beads size 11

– Black 4mm bead

– Needles

– Full colour instructions with step by step picture

What else will you need (not included):

– 1 x 6-inch hoop

– 1 x 4-inch hoop

The fabrics are precut to the size of the hoops

– Large needle or tailor’s awl (for plunging)

– Screwdriver to tighten the hoops

– Embroidery scissors and a larger pair for cutting wires

– A brown felt tip pen

– Glue such as PVA or hi Tack glue.

– Equipment to trace on the fabric: I recommend a light-box and a fine black liner for the white fabrics, and a white pastel pencil for the dark fabrics. Any other method would also work.

Equipment that would help but not essential:

– a second 4-inch hoop

– A stand to work with both hands

– A pair of tweezers

The kit comes in a sturdy cardboard box.

If item is in back order, it can take up to 4 weeks to ship.
